Its role is to advance and protect the interests of its
members and promote the growth of the Canadian dairy processing
industry which employs almost 26,000 people at the primary
processing level and processes table milk, fresh cream,
cheese, yogurt and ice cream products valued in excess of
$10 billion annually.

Founded in 1938, Agropur is currently the largest
dairy cooperative in Canada, and has sales of more
than $1.9 billion. The Cooperative is owned by nearly
4,400 dairy producers and employs over 3,100 people.
The Agropur cooperative operates 11 HACCP-certified
and 7 ISO-9002 certified dairy plants. It also owns
a plant in the United States. It processes 17.8 million
hectolitres of milk annually, nearly 23.7 percent
of the total milk produced in Canada. Agropur operates
four divisions: Natrel (fluid milk, cream and dairy
beverages), Ultima Foods (yogurt), Industrial Division
(dairy ingredients) and Fine Cheese Division (cheese).
Its products include a full range of cheeses, fluid
milk, creams and flavoured creams, butter, yogurt,
dairy desserts (fresh or frozen), cultured dairy products,
milk powder, whey protein concentrates and whey powder.

Arla Foods Inc is a wholly owned subsidiary of Arla Foods amba in Denmark, a Danish and
Swedish-owned dairy co-operative and one of the largest Dairy companies in the world. Arla
Foods has been established in Canada since 1961.
Arla Foods Inc. is a major supplier of specialty
cheese, sourced from our parent production facilities
in Europe, own and licensed Canadian production. In
addition to this Arla Foods imports from Italy and
many other European as well as North and South American
countries. The company has sales and distribution
centres in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

Danone Canada is and has been the Canadian leader in Fresh Dairy Products since 1967. Danone
Canada's head office and production plant are located in Boucherville, Quebec, it also has a
depot in Toronto, Ontario and its sales force covers all of Canada. Danone Canada employs about
400 people throughout its different departments, such as Marketing, Sales, Finances, Purchasing,
Information Technology, Industrial, Quality Insurance, Research & Development, Procurement chain
and Human Resources.

Farmers Dairy's originated in the 1920's, and became a cooperative dairy in 1961. Owned by
over 200 dairy farmers, Farmers Dairy produces and/or distributes a wide range of dairy and dairy
related products supplying thousands of residential, retail and food-service customers throughout
Atlantic Canada.
Farmers Cooperative Dairy Limited is the parent company, with its main processing plant and
head office located in Bedford, Nova Scotia. In that province, Farmers also operates a cheese and
milk powder plant in Truro and a spreads plant in Middleton. In Newfoundland, the Central Dairies
division processes a variety of products at a modern facility in St. John's. Farmers Dairy
distributes product to Prince Edward Island and also has a strategic alliance with a leading dairy
processor, Northumberland Dairy, in New Brunswick, allowing Farmers Dairy complete Atlantic
Canadian distribution.

Gay Lea Foods Co-operative Limited has been an all-important link between Ontario dairy farm
operations and Ontario consumers for nearly half a century. Currently, twenty per cent of the
province's milk producers are among its member-shareholder-owners. The United Dairy and Poultry
Co-operative Limited was granted a provincial charter in 1958, its mandate is to improve the
economic and general welfare of its members. The evolution of the organization into Gay Lea Foods
Co-operative Limited, during the early nineteen-seventies, was the result of it's Gay Lea brand
name becoming a standard of comparison for Ontario dairy products.

The Breyers® brand was introduced in Canada in 1995 when it replaced the Beatrice®
Classic ice cream brand. That same year, Unilever renamed its Canadian ice cream company Good
Humor-Breyers. Since then, the Breyers® brand has grown significantly. Now a part of
Unilever Ice Cream, several new product lines have joined Breyers Classic®. Among them are
Breyers® Double Churned, Smart Scoop™, Premium Light and Co-Brands. Unilever Canada Inc.
is a wholly owned subsidiary of Unilever PLC, which has its headquarters in London, England.

Kraft employs approximately 6,900 people in Canada.
In addition to the Canadian headquarters in Toronto,
Ontario, the Company has 13 plants and bakeries, and
13 distribution centres across the country, as well
as offices in B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec
New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Kraft Canada brands
include, Maxwell House and Nabob Coffee, Mr. Christie
biscuits and crackers, Post cereal, Delissio Pizza,
Cracker Barrel and P'tit Quebec cheese, Philadelphia
cream cheese and Kraft Dinner. Kraft Canada Inc, is
an affiliate of Kraft Foods Inc. based in Northfield,
Illinois.

Parmalat Canada is committed to the health and wellness of Canadians and markets a variety

produces milk and dairy products, fruit juices, cultured products, cheese products and table
spreads with such respected brands as Beatrice®, Lactantia®, Astro®, Black
Diamond®, and Balderson®. Parmalat Canada employs more than 2,900 people with 19
operating facilities across the country.

Safeway/Lucerne
Lucerne is a leading supplier of dairy and related
food products in western Canada. It is the principal
supplier to Canada Safeway and other leading food
distributors. It is a subsidiary of Canada Safeway,
which operates 215 stores -- located primarily in
Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan
-- and about 25% of the grocery market in western
Canada. Canada Safeway serves independent grocery
stores and institutional customers through three distribution
centers; it also has about a dozen Canadian plants
that make or process meat, dairy products, fruits
and vegetables, bread, and other foods. Canada Safeway
accounts for about 11% of parent Safeway's total sales.

Salerno Dairy Products Limited, a Hamilton based company, was originally founded by Carmine
Marzaro in 1963. It has been able to carry on the Italian tradition and produce some of the finest
Italian specialty cheeses. It also produces butter, and dry and condensed dairy products. Salerno
employs 135 persons in its operations.

Solid foundations, a commitment to excellence and
dedication to growth are the keystones that have enabled
Saputo to evolve as the largest dairy processor in
Canada, one of the most important cheese producers
in North America, the third largest dairy processor
in Argentina and the largest snack cake manufacturer
in Canada, with 8,500 employees. The company's products,
manufactured in 45 plants that stretch from one end
of the Americas to the other, are marketed under such
well-known brand names as Saputo, Armstrong, Alexis
de Portneuf, Kingsey, Dairyland, Baxter, Nutrilait,
Stella, Frigo, Dragone, Treasure Cave, La Paulina,
Ricrem and Vachon.

Scotsburn Co-operative Services Limited, also referred to as Scotsburn Dairy
Group, is a century old dairy processing and distribution co-op that serves 500 dairy and livestock
farmers in the four Atlantic provinces. Established in 1900, Scotsburn has expanded over the years
through purchases and mergers with other dairy co-operatives and now distributes fresh and frozen
dairy products throughout the Atlantic region. It operates five processing facilities and 11
distribution centres in Nova Scotia. This co-operative employs over 800 people in its dairy and
other agriculture related operations. Scotsburn is the largest Atlantic Canadian-owned processor
and distributor of fresh quality dairy products and ice cream, and has introduced innovative
products such as sugar-free and peanut free ice cream.

In 1993, the two biggest dairy cooperatives in Canada, Agropur and Agrifoods, formed a
partnership in order to pool their yogourt and fresh cheese marketing activities under a new entity
called Ultima Foods Inc.
Agropur, originally established in 1938 as the Société coopérative agricole
du canton de Granby, was owned by 4,400 milk producers - mostly from Quebec. Agropur teamed up with
Agrifoods, a co-op founded on July 12, 1992 after the merger of three other co-ops: the Central
Alberta Dairy Pool, the Fraser Valley Milk Producers Cooperative Association and the Northern
Alberta Dairy Pool. |
