March 21, 2019 –

The Dairy Processors Association of Canada (DPAC) is concerned by the lack of Government commitment to the Canadian dairy processing industry in Budget 2019.

Following the conclusion of CUSMA last fall, Agriculture and Agri-foods Canada (AAFC) created two working groups with an equal representation of dairy processors and farmers to identify how best to mitigate the impacts of trade agreements on the dairy sector. Dairy processors are therefore disappointed that the Government has chosen not to propose any mitigation measures for dairy processors in Budget 2019, and did not provide any reassurance on the issue of import license allocation.

Despite the concern raised by the announced budget, DPAC looks forward to working with Minister Bibeau via AAFC’s Strategic Working Group to develop a long term vision for the sector, and to pursue discussions on full and fair compensation for the dairy sector, including dairy processors.
