Producer-processors in Quebec can now label cheese made with the milk from their own herd with the term “Fromage Fermier” (Farm Cheese). On March 29, 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation) of Quebec authorized the use of the standard term for artisan cheese made with cow, goat, sheep and buffalo milk from its own herd. The Conseil des industriels laitiers du Québec anticipates that close to 50 producer-processors will be eligible to use the term on their products.
